So, I was just on the train and thinking about another game, and found myself thinking about how I would create a Displacer Beast for BG games:
- Start with the panther animation
- Give it Spell Revisions-style constant Reflected Image
- Give the actual creature Improved Invisibility
...and, that's it! It wouldn't have tentacles, but fighting one in this engine would be a lot like fighting a displacer beast. I think it would be really cool.
Then I wondered what to do with such a thing. I don't make quest mods... so would I post here and offer it to another modder? What about a much simpler way to get it in the game: simply replace a vanilla creature with this new one.
So, I think I might do that. I haven't gone far enough down this train of thought to decide which vanilla monster should be replaced with a displacer beast. Maybe Carrion Crawlers? Otyughs? Not sure.
While considering that, my mind jumped to the obvious next question: what other D&D monsters deserve this treatment? What Monstrous Compendium entries have been unjustly ignored, that we can adapt and insert into the games to spice things up? Let's brainstorm in this thread.
